Can you tell I’m excited to be back online?!!!! (+!!!!!) I’m taking the sliver of a nap window to push all my energy into your inbox.

Just about a month ago we welcomed our first baby into this world!!!
You know how people are like YOoooOo your life changes when you have kids? and you’re like ya ya.
They were right.
Shit is diiiiifferent.
Sometimes I get snapchat memories of me lounging on the couch, hungover and think, “damn, I had no idea then that that moment would be so fleeting. You should have soaked it in.” Yes, I still have snapchat. All the cool millennials do ok.
To be clear, I love this new life and I’ve learned more about myself in 1 month than I have in decades. There is a newfound side of resilience, patience and wow-i-don’t-know-wtf-I’m-doing-95.594%ofthetime-and-this-is-humbling that I’ve discovered.
She’s also incredibly delicious and special. OK FINE I’LL INCLUDE 1 PIC BUT ONLY 1 PIC!!!
But you’re not here for new-mom rants or cute baby pics, are ya?
Idk who most of you are at this point so naturally I’m self conscious of dishing anything that isn’t a 17 min read about a food product you never knew you needed to know too much about. But if you’re craving that, check out the last edition about buying eggs:
I’ve been meaning to say wassup and check in with some food things on my mind. Also I just miss writing and hanging in this pocket of the universe, so I’m selfishly basking in that on this fine Monday.
Here’s a little piece of my brain musings that have grown out of this new chapter. It’s a sprinkle of recipes, inspo or generally food hacks I’ve come to appreciate.
Maybe you can send this to an expecting mom. Or maybe, you just wanna borrow some of this for your own kitchen expeditions. Your life, your rules bb.
Gyozas - fun to make, easy to store, delicious postpartum.
We had a gyoza making party before the little one came. It included wrapping 100s of gyozas and getting to eat some of them after prepping and freezing loads more.
Recipe: Pork + cabbage and we this veggie version.
This was a ton of fun + fed us that night + has fed us many times after. Highly recommend for anyone looking to stock up on a good time and many more good times after. The best part is, you can cook them from frozen!
Peaches n’ cream - 3 ingredients, perfect for the end of peach season.
This was my go to towards the end of pregnancy. You take some heavy cream and using a hand blender, whisk attachment on kitchen aid (or a whisk if you’re feeling like a workout) + a tsp of vanilla extract and blend til stiff peaks form. Load it up over peaches. Maybe add some mint if you have that handy. A really divine treat if you ask me (and my former 40 week pregnant self who would agree)
Cook in batches and store in freezer
Duhhhh DPo. But this was something I never did pre-pregnancy and definitely recommend others do in their daily lives!
Any time I’d make legumes (beans, lentils, etc) I’d just double the servings and store the rest. The same went for sauces - I made a bolognese and doubled it and froze.
But the kicker was my lightbulb moment on how to store it. Check out this space-saving-hack:
Lol this is a terrible pic, but I’ve eaten the rest of these!!! Basically:
Put your food in a ziploc and let chill
Date it and label it w/ a sharpie
Flatten it out and remove all the air (I did a poor job on the above)
Let it freeze flat like this on a drawer in your freezer
When frozen, you can then store it vertically in your freezer. Saves a ton of room!!
My favorite butter crackers everyone in their first trimester should have handy, but really any human would enjoy.
These are just delicious and I feel the need to share them. I wish I would have known about them when all food sounded abhorrent - these would have been clutch. Now we just snack on them all day. It’s reminiscent of those butter cookies you got in the metal tin as a kid.
You can buy them online here.
Ok now I gotta bounce - little one calls.
I miss ya’ll lots and hope to keep inspiring your brain to learn obscure things or get your booty in the kitchen. I’m still very much adjusting to this new world and recovering myself, but hope to check in again soon!
Much love,
DPo
She's baaaaaaaaack
